Praying with Authority.

Because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may share in his glory.

Romans 8:14-17

In his book, Dirty Glory, Pete Grieg, one of the founders of the 24-7 prayer movement says this;

“The pressing need in an age like our own, when so many people are praying so much, is not for greater activity but for greater spiritual authority”.

Paul’s letter to the Romans is packed with teaching about our standing in Christ. If you have time - and time is something we have a lot of now - read the whole book.

Really meditate on what it means to be a co-heir with Christ. Ch 8: 34 tells us that Christ Jesus, who defeated death, is seated at the right hand of God and is interceding for us. Ushering us into the Father’s presence. And as if that isn’t enough, the Holy Spirit, the third part of the Godhead is also interceding for us, helping us to express our prayers when our human abilities seem inadequate.

Verse 27 says And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.

All three persons of our trinitarian God are helping us. We are invited in…Father, Son and Holy Spirit drawing us into prayer in the heavenly realms. If we can come into agreement with what Jesus and the Holy Spirit are praying which will be in accordance with God’s will, we will be praying mighty and effective prayers.

Father, thank you that you have made a way for me to come into your presence. Thank you that I was born for fellowship with you and you love to hear my prayers. Please teach me afresh how to hear from you and give me the gift of faith so that I may step into the authority you have given me through Jesus.
